'We got our arses smacked good and proper': Leicester retreat to target Munster rematch

The Tigers had no answer to Munster’s clinical approach in Limerick.

LEICESTER TIGERS DIRECTOR of rugby Richard Cockerill had absolutely no complaints following his side’s 38 – 0 bonus point defeat at Thomond Park.

The Tigers were out-muscled in every facet and only came close to scoring twice in 80 minutes against Rassie Erasmus’in-form side – once with a 50 metre penalty that dipped under the posts, and then with a second half siege that was thwarted by a CJ Stander steal.

“Last year we beat them home and away,” Cockerill said after an angry walk from his team’s dressing room.

“Today we came here and got our arses smacked good and proper. There’s no getting away from it. I’m not going to shy away from the fact, I watched the game as well as you guys and we got our arses smacked.”

On a night with few, if any, positives for the Premiership club, the Tigers’ only consolation is the fact that they can attempt to avenge the loss when the sides meet in the return fixture at Welford Road next Saturday.

“They go to Welford Road next week and we need to make sure we stick a stake in the ground and make sure the confrontation is met head on.”

“Munster played exceptionally well, all credit to them. No issue on that level. Good players, well coached and they played very well. They deserved the win… can I go home now?”
