JUST A FORTNIGHT after guiding the club to a Champions League victory over Cork City, Dean Klafuric has been sacked as manager of Legia Warsaw.
The Polish champions announced the decision this afternoon after they were eliminated from Europe’s premier club competition.
Legia’s 4-0 aggregate victory against Cork City saw them advance to a meeting with Spartak Trnava in the second qualifying round, which they entered as strong favourites.

Klafuric’s side were 1-0 winners away to the Slovakian champions last night, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the 2-0 defeat they suffered in the home leg seven days earlier.
The 46-year-old Croatian had only been appointed as Legia’s permanent manager in June, having taken temporary charge of the club after the departure of Romeo Jozak in April.
Prior to their two-legged tie against Cork City, Klafuric stated that Legia’s aim was to return to the group stages of the Champions League — which they reached in 2016-17 — after missing out last season.
Instead, Legia will join the Leesiders in the third qualifying round of the Europa League, where they will face either Dudelange (Luxembourg) or Drita (Kosovo).
In addition to their Champions League exit, Legia began their Polish title defence with a shock home defeat to Zaglebie Lubin. They also suffered a 3-2 defeat to Arka Gdynia in the Polish Super Cup.
