A FOOT INJURY, which required hospital treatment last week in Castlebar, was the reason why Lee Keegan did not feature in Mayoโs landslide win over Roscommon at Croke Park today.
Keegan was man-of-the-match in the drawn game as he scored 1-3 from play but it was announced before throw-in at todayโs quarter-final replay that the Westport man would be replaced by Tom Parsons.
While Keegan did partake in the warm-up beforehand, he was not pressed into action during the game.
But it was a precaution taken by manager Stephen Rochford and the 2016 Footballer of the Year will be available for selection for the All-Ireland semi-final against Kerry on Sunday 20 August.
โObviously it was a bit documented about Lee having spent some time in hospital this week,โ stated Rochford.

โIt was just his foot, it just ballooned up on Monday night. He would have been available if needed going into the final 20 or 25 minutes.
โTo be honest as (regards being) 100%, heโd be available probably tomorrow, definitely Wednesday. Heโd made a really, really good recovery.
โItโs an opportunity just to acknowledge our own medical team and the medical team in Mayo General (Hospital) for the good work they did with him.

โWe just felt the way that Roscommon (were) on the ball, we needed to put more pace into the game and thatโs what Tom (Parsons) and Donal (Vaughan) afforded us.
โThey were really good around the middle third. Possession is nine-tenths of the law. I thought we did really well there in getting our hands on the ball.
โCertainly (we) didnโt turn it over half as many times as we did last week. That would have lead to a lot of frustration in the camp last week.
โThatโs a job done for today but far from anything more than that. We just played with a more consistent tempo.
โWe stopped operating in spurts and taking our foot off the throttle.
โWe just sort of played a little bit more on the line and looked just for the next score and allowed the scoreboard build.โ
