Former Ireland midfielder Lee Carsley takes over at Championship club

Brentford have parted company with manager Marinus Dijkhuizen after just nine matches.

BRENTFORD HAVE ANNOUNCED the departure of head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen and his assistant Roy Hendriksen.

The Dutchman only took over from Mark Warburton at the Championship club back in June, but first eight league matches in charge have produced two wins, two draws and four defeats to leave The Bees sitting in 19th position.

Ex-Ireland international Lee Carsley, who had been managing the club’s development squad, has been handed the reins until the end of the season.

Carlsey, capped 40 times for the Boys in Green, has coaching experience at Sheffield United and Coventry City, where he acted as caretaker manager on two occasions.

“The Club believes Lee deserves the opportunity to step up and help shape Brentford FC’s future on the pitch,” a statement from the club reads.

Fairly happy to see them struggling after letting Warburton and his staff go at the end of last season. Bonkers decision from the owner.

They really overachieved last season. Injuries have played their part so far this season, but the whole moneyball model doesn’t appear to be working so far.

If he can get some of the spirit he brought to Everton when they finished 4th with a bunch of grafters then they’ll do ok

Best of luck to him. He was a wonderful pro and always worked his ass off in an Ireland jersey.
