Cobh close the gap on leaders Waterford after last-gasp win over Roddy Collins' Athlone

The side from the south-east were held to a 1-1 draw by Shelbourne.

COBH RAMBLERS HAVE closed the gap on SSE Airtricity League First Division leaders Waterford to five points after a 93rd-minute winner from Cian Coleman saw them past Roddy Collins’ Athlone Town.

It was the hosts who looked more likely to score at Lissywollen but the guests picked up the pace in the final 10 minutes and Coleman proved the difference in the end.

Waterford were held 1-1 by Shelbourne at the RSC.

The Dubliners took the lead after just five minutes through Adam Evans and though Aron Drinan responded early in the second-half, the home side failed to find a winner.

Elsewhere, UCD got the better of Wexford thanks to Robert Manley’s strike 15 minutes from time and Longford were 2-0 winners away to Cabinteely.
