Late switch: Alex Pearce added to Ireland squad

The Reading defender has been added to the squad in place of Darren O’Dea who will remain in Toronto.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND coach Giovanni Trapattoni has had to make a late tweak to his squad for the upcoming friendly against Poland on February 6.

Reading centre half Alex Pearce has been added to the squad in place of Darren O’Dea whose club, Toronto FC, have requested that he remain with them during pre-season preparations.

A brief statement today from the FAI says that “Trapattoni has agreed to the request”.

Pearce, 24, scored on his only previous senior cap for Ireland in September.

The FAI also announced that ticket holders for the Poland fixture would be given free entry to Ireland’s under 21 encounter with Holland at 1pm on February 6 in Tallaght Stadium, hours before the senior international at the Aviva Stadium.
