Last chance saloon for Henson

Controversial Welsh star accepts his international career is coming to an end.

WALES BACK GAVIN HENSON has conceded that his international career is all but over.

The 30-year-old is looking to get his career back on track after joining Aviva Premiership side London Welsh but admits his chances of playing for Wales again are small.

Henson has been on the sidelines since breaking his wrist during a World Cup warm-up match against England last year.

And he admits he is unlikely to earn a recall for the Six Nations champions, saying the current strength of the squad is more than adequate without him.

“I’m a million miles off playing for Wales and they’re doing a great job,” he told Walesonline.

“They look unbelievable at the moment so they don’t need me anywhere near that.”

“I was in good condition in pre-season last year and then broke my wrist and that put me back a fair way.”

The Welshman is now focusing on club rugby as he attempts to make the most of his time left in the game after a career blighted by injuries, disputes with clubs and a hiatus from the game.

“I can understand the perception of me, but I’m totally focused on rugby and have been since I came back to the game,” he said.

“It has been tough but I just hope I can do my talking on the field.”

“It’s been years since I have properly played. At the time my body let me down, I couldn’t get back to past heights and it has been a rough ride.

“This is my last chance. How much more time I last, who knows? But I hope it’s a fair time. I hope I’ve got a lot of seasons left in me.”
