LANCE ARMSTRONG SAYS he is honoured to have written the foreword to former US Postal soigneur Emma O’Reilly’s new book The Race to Truth.
The Irishwoman was a central figure in the doping scandal that left Armstrong disgraced and stripped of his seven Tour de France titles.
O’Reilly’s book, carrying the sub-title ‘Blowing the whistle on Lance Armstrong and cycling’s doping culture‘, tells of her relationship with the former cyclist. Armstrong made legal threats against O’Reilly after an interview with David Walsh in 2003 and looked to destroy her reputation as she shared the truth.

However, the pair were reconciled following Armstrong’s decision to come clean about his cheating to Oprah Winfrey in 2013 and now, remarkably, the Texas native has provided the foreword to Dublin woman’s new book.
“Best wishes to Emma O’Reilly for her book launch today,” tweeted Armstrong this afternoon. “I was honoured and humbled that she asked me to write the forward [sic]. #racetotruth”.

On the pages of The Race to Truth, Armstrong admits to having been “surprised” when O’Reilly asked him to contribute. He calls their shared history “an interesting one, to say the least,” before paying tribute to her steely mindset.
“All credit to Emma, as she’s always been a very direct no bullshit kind of girl, even if 90 per cent of the time I cannot understand what she’s saying, she speaks so fast in her thick Irish accent!
“She says what is right and what is wrong and for a time that worked against the lies I was telling the world,” writes Armstrong. “Over-night my story as sporting hero and Tour de France champion went from a lilywhite picture to jet black.”
