Lampard's love story with Chelsea over - Mourinho

The Blues legend struck in trademark fashion to earn 10-man Manchester City a deserved point against his former club.

JOSE MOURINHO INSISTS Frank Lampard’s love story with Chelsea is over after the 36-year-old scored to deny his former club victory against Manchester City on Sunday.

A scrappy clash between the Premier League champions and leaders opened up on 66 minutes when Pablo Zabaleta received a second booking for bringing down Diego Costa, and Andre Schurrle’s strike five minutes later put the Blues on course for a vital win.

But Lampard, on as a second-half substitute, converted a James Milner cross in trademark fashion to earn City a deserved point before leaving the Etihad Stadium pitch to chants and applause from the travelling Chelsea support.

After the match Mourinho refused to be drawn on his feelings about Lampard’s contribution.

“Frank Lampard is a Manchester City player,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. ”When he decided to go to a direct competitor then love stories are over.”

“I don’t believe in stories of passion and heart, maybe I am too pragmatic in football. He did his job as a professional.

“To speak about Frank is to speak about my past with Frank – the player he was for me and what he means in my career. I am never tired to speak about this, but from the moment he is a Man City player I don’t speak about other teams’ players.

“I am the Chelsea manager and I speak about my players, and my players did fantastically.”
