Cork, Galway and Armagh players to contest prestigious ladies football award

The winner of the TG4 Ladies Football Player’s Player of the Year will be announced on 8 November.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF the GAA/GPA Allstar teams last week doesn’t mark the end of the awards season as the TG4 Ladies Football Player’s Player of the Year nominees were announced today.

There was a little bit of controversy surrounding the ladies football Allstar nominees at the start of the month when All-Ireland runners up Dublin had more nominees than winners Cork, but the capital was shut out of the player’s player of the year nominees today.

Instead, Cork’s fullback and dual All Ireland winner Angela Walsh, Armagh captain and Commonwealth Games participant Caroline O’Hanlon and Galway captain Sinead Walsh will contest the award on Saturday 8 November.

Down have two players, Kyla Trainor and Aileen Pyres, nominated for intermediate player’s player of the year with the other nominee being Fermanagh’s Caroline Little.

After a strong year for New York, midfielder Linda McKeon is nominated for junior player’s player of the year along with Wexford duo Clara Donnelly and Mary Rose Kelly.

All three awards, as well as this year’s Allstar team, will be announced on 8 November.
