FLYWEIGHT KURT WALKER was forced to settle for a bronze medal at the AIBA World Youth Championships this afternoon.
The Lisburn boxer narrowly lost out by 14 points to 12 after three rounds against England’s Oliver Simpson in the 52 kg division.
After losing the opening round 4-3, Simpson was able to counter-punch and stretched his lead to 9-5 after round two.
Walker, to his credit, gave the final round everything and won it 7-5. However, the four-point deficit proved too much to reel in and the Canal BC man must content himself with the bronze medal he secured by beating Ian Bautista on Tuesday.

At least he’ll be in decent company, as Olympic medallist Paddy Barnes reminded him this afternoon.
