AFTER 42 YEARS of hosting, Kilmacud Crokes won their first All-Ireland hurling Sevens title in south Dublin yesterday.
In their second final, Crokes defeated Tipperary’s Portroe by 6 – 21 to 7 – 5 with Oisin O’Rorke claiming a hat-trick and Ryan O’Dwyer providing 2 – 2.
Captain Sean McGrath accounted for the other goal, while Caolán Conway, Dillon Mulligan, and Niall Corcoran kept the scoreboard ticking over to keep the Michael Sheedy-inspired Portroe at bay.
There was no shortage of inter-county talent on show with Cork’s Conor Lehane and Clare’s Patrick o’Connor crashing out at the semi-final stage with their Middleton and Tubber clubs.
There was a first-time winner in the Shield final too, as Donegal club Burt produced a strong second half to edge out Armagh club Keady by 2 – 12 to 3 -8.
