Kilkenny ran out comprehensive winners over Dublin IT by 5-23 to 1-9 in Freshford. Brian Codyโs side had 26 points to spare over their third-level opponents as they opened their 2014 campaign in style. Joe Brennan and Jonjo Farrell both struck the net in the opening period and helped propel Kilkenny into a nine-point lead, 2-7 to 0-4, at the interval.
Mark Kelly hit their third goal after half-time before the same player then struck Kilkennyโs fourth goal of the day. Farrell hit his second goal of the day late on to seal the Cats victory.
Anthony Cunninghamโs Galway side enjoyed a narrow 1-14 to 1-13 win against Offaly in Tullamore. Brian Whelehanโs Offaly lead by 0-7 to 0-5 at the break with Joe Bergin striking four points for them. An early second-half goal by Kevin Connolly pushed Offaly into a really strong position as they moved ahead by 1-8 to 0-5.

However Galway dug in with Niall Healy, who struck four first-half points, smashing a penalty to the net and the Tribesmen rattled off vital points in the finale to seal success. They will travel to face Kilkenny next week in Freshford.
