THIS YEAR’S GAA/GPA Hurler of the Year, and Allstar midfielder Richie Hogan has had his dream weekend brought to a shuttering end by the might of Henry Shefflin’s Ballyhale Shamrocks today.
The 14 time champions put five goals past a spirited Danesfort team containing Hogan and fellow Allstar and All-Ireland winner Paul Murphy.
Ballyhale raced into a 0-4 to no score lead with TJ Reid, ‘Cha’ Fitzpatrick and none other than Henry Shefflin finding their range early on.

Then within seven minutes Ballyhale scored their first of five goals, the first two from Brian Cody, the third from Eoin Reid and the fourth from Colin Fennelly – the scores were 4-15 to 0-6 at the break.
Having never won a senior championship before, and against the might of Ballyhale, Hogan’s team showed some real grit in the second half. Yet despite their best efforts another Colin Fennelly goal with fifteen remaining meant that they trailed by 19 points.
But still Danesfort fought on and a Paul Murphy goal on 50 minutes added some respectability to the score. Nonetheless it’s Ballyhale who now go on in search of a sixth title in eight years.

Meanwhile Richie and John Power’s Carrickshock overcame Rower Inistioge by a single point after extra time in today’s earlier quarter final replay.
Despite trailing for much of the opening half a late goal followed by a Richie Power point put Carrickshock in two points up at the interval.
With fifteen minutes left they then led by five, although a string of points by county star Kieran Joyce then put just a goal between the sides. The momentum had swung and three points, the third from Pat Lyng would bring the game to extra time.
Much like last weekend’s 0-12 apiece draw this was a low scoring affair and not for the faint hearted. The teams continued to trade points during much of extra time, but last year’s runners-up were able to do enough to reach the last four.
