AND THEN THERE were two.
We’re down to the final pair in the race to claim the Liam MacCarthy Cup for 2015 – Kilkenny and Galway set to battle it out in Croke Park on Sunday afternoon.
It will be the sixth All-Ireland senior hurling decider featuring Kilkenny and Galway (including the two games in 2012) with the Cats having triumphed in 1975, 1979, 1993 and 2012.
Galway’s solitary final success over Kilkenny came in 1988 when they won out by 1-12 to 0-9.
That 1988 win was Galway’s last triumph in an All-Ireland final whereas Kilkenny are chasing an 11th title win in the 17 seasons that Brian Cody has been in charge.
Here’s Kilkenny’s path to the final:
- Kilkenny 5-25 Wexford 0-16 – Leinster semi-final
- Kilkenny 1-25 Galway 2-15 – Leinster final
- Kilkenny 1-21 Waterford 0-18 – All-Ireland semi-final
And here’s Galway’s path to the final:
- Galway 1-17 Dublin 0-20 – Leinster quarter-final
- Galway 5-19 Dublin 1-18 – Leinster quarter-final replay
- Galway 3-28 Laois 1-14 – Leinster semi-final
- Galway 2-15 Kilkenny 1-25 – Leinster final
- Galway 2-28 Cork 0-22 – All-Ireland quarter-final
- Galway 0-26 Tipperary 3-16 – All-Ireland semi-final
But we want to know who do you think will win on Sunday? Or will we have a fourth successive final draw? Let us know.
