Kilkenny had a four-point win at Parnell Park while Mayo’s footballers are into the semi-finals of the Connacht MFC.

KILKENNY PROGRESSED TO the Leinster Minor Hurling Championship final after a 0-17 to 2-7 win over Dublin at Parnell Park.

Having ran out comfortable winners over Kildare in the last round, Paddy Hoban’s side were aiming to knock the reigning champions out in their bid to win a first Leinster title since 2010.

The Cats began strongly and opened up a four-point lead on Dublin before goalkeeper Jonathan Treacy fired in a penalty to close the gap.

Corner forward Chris Bennett added a second for Dublin and they led 2-4 to 0-7 at the half-time interval.

After the break, Kilkenny restored parity then went in front, holding a two point lead with seven minutes to go, and scores from Kevin Kenny and Alan Murphy (free) made sure of the victory.

They will meet the winners of Laois and Wexford, which will be played tomorrow, in the final on July 7.

Mayo booked their place in the last four of the Connacht MFC thanks to a 10-point win over Leitrim in Elverys McHalen Park.

When the sides met in the Connacht league back in April, Mayo got the better of Leitrim and were a goal to the good a couple of minutes in when Tommy Conroy found the back of the net after Cathal McCawley had scored the opening point of the evening.

Leitrim pulled a goal back before half-time to leave it 1-5 to 1-2 in favour of the home team but the second half saw last year’s beaten finalists extend their lead through scores from Val Roughneen, Darragh Doherty, Liam Irwin, Michael Hall, Conor Byrne, Diarmuid O’Connor and Stephen Coen.

Mayo will take on Galway in the semi-finals next weekend.
