IT’S BEEN A busy day of action in the Leinster Minor Championship, with Wexford, Longford, Louth and Meath all securing first-round wins.
Victorious in 2013 and beaten finalists last year, Kildare suffered a surprise 2-14 to 2-11 loss against Louth today.
A tight first half saw the score level, 1-5 to 0-8, at half-time, and Kildare appeared to be taking control thereafter, as they went into a 2-7 to 0-10 lead after 43 minutes.
However, Louth showed impressive resilience, as goals from Tadgh McEneaney and Adam O’Connor ultimately helped them clinch an impressive win.

In addition, Wexford beat Westmeath2-14 to 2-11 in a similarly tight affair.
The Model County threatened to blow away their opponents initially, as they powered into a 0-9 to 0-4 first-half lead, but Westmeath showed good spirit to stay in the game throughout.
Nevertheless, despite two Billy Berry goals in the first 10 second-half minutes, further goals from Shane Doyle and Mark Rossiter ultimately inspired Wexford to a hard-fought three-point victory
Meanwhile, Longford were too good for Wicklow, as they triumphed by a score of 1-14 to 1-8.
Longford claimed a 0-7 to 0-3 advantage after a cagey first half, and effectively wrapped up the game well before the finish, surging into a 1-12 to 0-5 lead at one point, with Rory Hawkins’ goal giving them a healthy lead.
Consequently, a late Wicklow goal proved nothing more than a consolation, as their rivals held on for a relatively comfortable six-point win.
Finally, it was a good day for Meath, as they overcame Laois by 1-17 to 2-8.
The Royal County looked to be coasting at one point, as Ross Ryan’s deflected goal helped them into a 1-9 to 0-3 lead.
However, late goals by Sean Moore and Colm Murphy gave Meath a scare, but proved too little too late.
Finally, Dublin beat Offaly2-11 to 1-9, more details of which can be read here.
