Capital flies flags at half-mast for Dublin freeman Kevin Heffernan

The Dublin GAA icon will be laid to rest tomorrow.

THE DUBLIN FLAGS which fly over the capital’s official buildings are at half-mast tonight as a mark of respect for former GAA icon, Kevin Heffernan.

The man who led the Dubs to three All-Ireland SFC titles in the late 70s and early 80s will be laid to rest on the northside of the city tomorrow.

“One of the ancient duties of a Freeman is to be ready to defend the City of Dublin,” Lord Mayor of Dublin, Naoise Ó Muirí said tonight. “Kevin embodied all that is good about being a Freeman with his positive approach to sport and to life in our city.

“Our sympathies are with his wife Mary, daughter Orla, family and friends at this time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam,” he added.

The St Vincent’s man died last week at the age of 83 following an illness, and will be laid to rest in Sutton following a requiem mass in Marino.

Saw him play for Rainey a few years ago and was by far the stand out player on the field. Best of luck to him. A great story

Dragons or any welsh side, is a step backwards from any irish side. I guess he is a welsh international however

@Justin Flynn: once he got capped for Wales it was inevitable he was leaving ulster, but a good decision for him as he would never be called up for ireland. Great story and wish him well
