Steve Bruce rules out Hull City move for Kevin Doyle

The Tigers’ boss insists he is happy with his striking options but still weighing up ‘three or four’ more transfers.

KEVIN DOYLE MAY not get his wish to return to the Premier League after Hull City boss Steve Bruce called transfer speculation about the Irish striker ‘wide of the mark’.

Several media sources, including ESPN and The Telegraph, reported over the weekend that Doyle was a £3m transfer target for the Tigers if he was willing to take a substantial cut to his £40,000-a-week wages.

Doyle has also been heavily linked to Glasgow Celtic and Neil Lennon admitted he was a fan of the Wolves forward. Hull City, however, do not appear to be a likely destination.

“I don’t know where that came from,” Bruce told Sky Sports News. “I know it was widely reported yesterday. We’ve brought in Danny Graham, from Sunderland, on loan and we’ve brought in Yannick Sagbo from Evian last week.

“[Up front] is an area where we really don’t need strengthening at the moment and it’s a little bit wide of the mark that one… I’ve been linked to something like 150 players over the last three months and we’ve signed five.”

Bruce, who is preparing his side to face Chelsea at the weekend is not yet finished his transfer dealings for the summer. “As a manager,” he commented, “you’re always wanting one more. I’m sure the chairman could tell you that. We’re a bit thin on the ground in midfield areas; we’ve let a couple out on loan to Blackburn in the last week. That’s one area we are looking to strengthen.

Hopefully, by the time the window shuts, we’ll get a couple, or two, three, bodies into that department. That should get us through the next five months until January.”

Two of the midfielders Bruce is reportedly looking at are Tottenham’s Doug Livermore and Tom Huddlestone. The Hull boss refused to name names as he believes it would be disrespectful to any club’s, and players, involved.
