Colm Cooper led Dr Crokes past Legion in the Kerry club championship.

Dr Crokes 0-17 Legion 1-10

KERRY FANS ARE likely salivating at the prospect of Colm Cooper and James O’Donoghue combining again in the championship this summer but they were opponents today as Dr Crokes edge Legion in the Kerry club championship by 0-17 to 1-10.

A goal from last year’s Footballer of the Year gave Legion a 1-6 to 0-8 advantage at the break but two late Cooper frees allowed Crokes to pull away and win by four points.

Two frees from Legion’s Conor Keane levelled the match with 13 minutes to go but Crokes outscored their rivals but 0-5 to 0-1 thereafter.

Kerry’s Jonathan Lyne was sent off for Legion for dissent in the second half.

Cooper only returned to the Kerry team towards the end of the league after missing all of last season with a knee injury while O’Donoghue sat out the entire league campaign as he recovered from a shoulder ailment.

A Goochless Kingdom won the All-Ireland last year but with Cooper, Paul Galvin and Tommy Walsh all returning this year, it will be very interesting to see what forward line Eamonn Fitzmaurice goes with during the summer.
