Doherty still in the hunt in World Snooker Championship first round tie

The 1997 champion is one frame down against Stuart Bingham going into this evening’s session.

IRELAND’S KEN DOHERTY trails Stuart Bingham 5-4 in the first round of the World Snooker Championship after this today’s first session.

The 1997 champion, who is the oldest player at this year’s event at 44, returned to the Crucible after missing out in 2013 but saw his English opponent take the first three frames.

However, the Dubliner battled back to narrow the deficit in the fourth and a break of 91 made it 4-3 to Bingham.

The pair took a frame each and the session ended with Doherty still in the hunt. They resume at 7pm.

Elsewhere, Ronnie O’Sullivan went into a 7-2 lead against Robin Hull ahead of this evening’s session.
