ROBBIE KEANE MADE the perfect start to his spell with Aston Villa yesterday, scoring two goals in the Birmingham side’s fixture with Wolves, included the game’s decisive strike from all of 25 yards.
On both occasions, however, the LA Galaxy loanee opted to mute his celebrations in favour of a nod towards jubilant teammates.
Speaking to the Mirror after the final whistle, Keane explained that the decision stemmed from his experiences as a teenager at Molineux:
“I had wonderful times at Wolves and they are a club that looked after me as a kid… I’ll never forget, they did so much for me. I’ve got a lot of friends at the club still and it’s always great to come back…
“I’ll never celebrate if I score against them.”
The Premier League veteran spent his formative years as a professional with Wolves, making his debut for the club as a 17-year-old and emerging as a prolific goalscorer before drawing leaving to join Coventry City in 1999.
