Gold medal joy for Katie Taylor at European Boxing Championships

The Bray native was pushed all the way by Estelle Mossely of France.

KATIE TAYLOR IS the 60kg champion of Europe again after defeating French boxer Estelle Mossely in Bucharest.

The Olympic gold medallist retained her title at the European Boxing Championships after strong middle rounds saw her accumulate enough points to coast through round four.

Mossely looked to have enjoyed the better of the opening round but a flurry of Taylor punches scored vital points. The second round was a cagey affair, with both fighters circling cautiously and only briefly engaging in exchanges.

Taylor bossed the third round as she allowed her opponent to draw near before feigning low and landing a left-right combination. Mossely was forced to cling onto the Bray boxer in order to make it through the round in one piece.

With a points advantage secured, Taylor boxed clever in the final round as she waited for Mossely to press before scoring with head shots.
