Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel emulates father, Peter, with last minute goal

The City stopper rose highest to head home a last-ditch cross although match officials at first awarded the score to his teammate.

KASPER SCHMEICHEL SCORED an incredible injury-time equaliser for Championship leaders Leicester City to rescue a point against Yeovil.

The City goalkeeper — son of former Manchester United and Denmark legend, Peter Schmeichel — rose highest in the box to make it 1-1. The ball crashed over the underside of the bar and bounced over the line.

The ball crashed off the underside of the bar and was initially not given, leaving Chris Wood to smack home the rebound. Schmeichel, speaking post-match, said it was clear that his header had crossed the line, joking that he would soon have a conversation with Wood and claim the goal ahead of his teammate. The dubious goals committee will make a ruling on the score in the coming days.

Schmeichel’s father famously scored a late, headed goal for United in a 1995 UEFA Cup match against Rotor Volgograd.
