Australian schoolboy sensation Ponga destined for rugby league

Check out the talented fullback who had professional offers from Super Rugby, the NRL and the AFL.

FOLLOWING ON THE heels of Kiwi schoolboy sensation Taniele Tupou is an Australian answer in an altogether different shape.

Kalyn Ponga has been ripping opposition defences to shreds from fullback for the Churchie 1st XV in Queensland’s schools rugby competition in 2014, dazzling with his footwork, pace and offloading ability.

Disappointingly for union fans, Ponga has already signed a professional contract with rugby league’s North Queensland Cowboys. In January, the then 15-year-old turned down offers from the Brisbane Lions in the AFL, the Queensland Reds in Super Rugby and various NRL clubs, instead agreeing to join the Cowboys.

Quite the talent and certainly one to watch.
