Disappointingly for union fans, Ponga has already signed a professional contract with rugby league’s North Queensland Cowboys. In January, the then 15-year-old turned down offers from the Brisbane Lions in the AFL, the Queensland Reds in Super Rugby and various NRL clubs, instead agreeing to join the Cowboys.
