Check out Juan Mata's first interview as a Manchester United player

The Spaniard is “proud” that he attracted the interest of England’s most successful league club.

JUAN MATA HAS given his first interview since officially signing on as Manchester United’s record £37.1m signing from Chelsea.

The Spanish international inked a deal with the league champions last night and spoke of his honour at being sought by United. He said, “This is a team that has won a lot of leagues in recent years, many, many leagues in the history of the Premier League and [old Division One]. It’s amazing, knowing that a club like Manchester United is interested in you.”

United boss David Moyes, meanwhile, has told MUTV that he is on the hunt for extra players but may not be able to bring in anyone else until the summer.

He said, “This is the first, and there will be many more to come in time. I want the quality of Juan to be the start of it. I don’t think we will have any more [signings] in January. I’m still working on it and looking to do so. But hopefully it will be the first of some new signings, some new players who will arrive, more likely in the summertime.”

Moyes added, “Undoubtedly we could all do with a bit of a lift. We have not done as well as we would have liked to do. We see this as the start, we have to look to improve, and I’m going to try to bring in some new players to make that happen.

“I want to build an exciting team, I want to win and I want to give the supporters something to shout about. I’ve not done that often enough.”
