Joyous day for Hession as he seals Olympic and World qualification in Dublin

Galway’s Paul Hession recorded an impressive time of 20.51 to win the 200m at Dublin’s Senior Track and Field Championship and qualify for the Olympic Games and World Championships.

PAUL HESSION HAS qualified for both the Olympic Games and World Championships after posting a brilliant time of 20.51 in the 200m at the Woodie’s DIY Senior Track and Field Championships in Dublin.

The Athenry AC sprinter has described his season as ‘frustrating’ so far, but there was nothing second rate about his performance in Dublin on Saturday, where he came in ahead of U23 European Finalist Steven Colvert.

The women’s 200m was won by Amy Foster in a time of 23.74, while Kate Veale produced another stunning performance to take her second senior national 5km walk title in 21.30.18.

Mark Kenneally, targeting Olympic qualification in the Marathon, took victory in the men’s 10,000m in a time of 28.58.39. This was a convincing run by Kenneally, who emerged from a battle with Gary Thornton and Martin Fagan to win.
