JOSE MOURINHO PLAYED down the significance of Manchester United’s home surrender to West Brom on Sunday, signalling that Man City deserved to win the Premier League on their own merits.
Having put title celebrations on ice at the Etihad Stadium thanks to a stunning 3-2 win over City last week, United folded at the hands of the relegation-threatened Baggies.
Jay Rodriguez’s goal at Old Trafford meant that City finally got their hands on the crown, leading their rivals by 16 points with five games to play.
But Mourinho argued after the final whistle that the title win was inevitable, and that the exact game in which the Premier League was secured mattered little.
“I congratulated Man City face-to-face when I had the chance because I knew they would do it,” the manager told reporters.
“If I was them I would be very disappointed if people said they won because West Brom beat Man United. They won because they were the best team. They only lost two games.
“I won eight titles and I am not on the moon because I won against Manchester City.
Jose Mourinho only mentioned that he’d won eight championships and three Premier League titles six times in his post-match press conference.

“I saw lots of people in the moon because we won against City. You could see the difference in the attitude to players compared to last week.”
“We deserve to be punished, but the defeat was too heavy.”
The two games lost by Pep Guardiola’s men compares favourably to the six times United have tasted defeat in the Premier League this season.
Both West Brom and Huddersfield, two teams near the foot of the table, beat the Red Devils, while fellow relegation candidates Southampton and Stoke also took points off United.
For Mourinho, that lack of consistency goes a long way to explaining the fate of this year’s title.
“I trust in my work. Eight titles. Three Premier League. Last not 20 years ago, it was three,” he added.
“I know how to win. I believe in myself. You don’t win titles with inconsistency. You need consistency at every level. The mental level, day by day.”
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
From the department of stating the bleeding obvious.
Is this the worst quality Premier League ever ?
This United team beat 2 CL quarter finalists in recent weeks and who together with Utd are the top three in the league.
@Adrian Costigan: yes it’s been woeful, all over since October.
@Adrian Costigan: What a stupid comment
@Adrian Costigan: go put on MUTV and Johnny Logan’s “what’s another year” it’ll cheer you up
@Adrian Costigan: and lost to relegation teams ! Yeah ,questions need answering Adrian .
@Adrian Costigan: yeah I think the TV companies are hyping the Premier League more and more to justify the massive billions they spend on the rights but ANYONE who watches football can see that the overall standard , style , quality and level of entertainment from games is not what it was , think back to the hype at the start of the season – any of the big teams might win , too close to call , JM and Pep battle , Chelsea to defend , Liverpool on the ascendancy blah blah , it was dull as dish water for the most part – even list the great players like Viera Keane Scholes Gerrard etc etc and the Pogbas cant hold a candle to these , the league game is declining , that United side that are second ? seriously cant hold a candle to the great sides in recent decades and not by A LONG way….look at the empty seats in the big grounds this season , and then factor in the likely decline in subscriptions as cord cutting and a lack of interest in subscription models for anything other than internet is bound to have an effect on the billion SKY etc pay for rights in the years ahead , they need to drastically improve the premiership or else I think a serious decline could be very pronounced in the years ahead – the days where football followers will happily fork out a grand a year for SKY subs when the games are getting as crap and the entertainment level is like this year are inevitable if they dont change something in my opinion.
You get paid 15m a year to

@Gary O’Hanlon: He isn’t paid to tell anyone anything. You’re thinking of Jamie Redknapp.
@Gary O’Hanlon: US ? Leeds supporters??? Blahahahaha Blahahahaha Blahahahaha

From salford (north strand)
Irrelevant José you mupp*t, why did your team lose to the worst team in the league?? Its because you’re a has been , dinosaur of a manager!
Players payed hundreds of thousands of pounds a week to challenge for a league title. The winning team won with 5 games to spare. That’s a disgrace. At least make it look like you tried to win lads. Hopefully your manager telling you to challenge for the title next season will make a difference.
United fans should have a listen to this might make the feel better

@Micky: No.
@Paul Friday Shannon: Next year will be your year Paul.
Congratulations to Man City and commiserations to manu their closet rival this year
@Mr Nimziki: would you not say Liverpool are their closest rival this year as they’ve bet them 3 out of 4 of the times they met in all competitions this season ?
@Alana: who cares no trophies for second place, Liverpool have been outstanding recently in fairness.
@Paul Friday Shannon: very true Paul it’s only first that matters. You’ve just gone up in my estimation Paul to say something like that about a rival club takes a lot.
@Alana: but the table doesn’t lie does it I think I seen you say the other day
@Mr Nimziki: I would prefer to watch 5 mins of liverpool than watch 5 hours of Man United shite…
@Mr Nimziki: united for the cup ! And second place also ? Would you take that ? Brill .
