WITH JUST TWO DAYS to go until UFC 179, anticipation for the headline fight between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes is hotting up.
The featherweight title is on the line in Rio da Janeiro and 145lbs champion Aldo (24-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) has been this week fine-tuning his Muay Thai technique with trainer Pedro Rizzo.
“We are in the final stretch, close to fight week,” the Brazilian told reporters this week. “Final preparations are done, now it’s time to win the fight. He (Mendes) is a piece of shit. The rivalry is intense as pros we know where to take care of business.

When asked about Conor McGregor, he added: “He’s a shit. I’ll only talk about him after my fight.”
No 1 contender Mendes (16-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) remains confident that he can make up for his defeat when the pair met two years ago and believes his is getting into his opponent’s head.
“This is a huge fight for me — all about redemption and pay-back,” said the Californian. “It’s all about getting that title and it’s something I’ve been waiting for for a couple of years now.
“I had the opportunity once in Brazil against him but it just didn’t go my way so I’ve grown up a little bit and learned from the mistake I made. I’m just chomping at the bit to get back in there. I know this is my time – I’m the guy to beat Jose Aldo.
I don’t hate this guy but I don’t like him. He has talked a lot of shit and we’ve never seen him do that before against any opponent. It’s good to know that it’s bothering him. This is real.
“I’m going to get in there, whoop his ass in his back yard and bring the belt back to Sacremento.”
