WE ALREADY KNEW that former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler will square off with former lightweight titleholder Rafael dos Anjos on 16 December, with a shot at the 170-pound title on offer for the victor.
This evening, that holiday season card in Winnipeg became even more enticing, as the UFC confirmed former long-reigning featherweight champ José Aldo will return to the octagon in a rematch with Ricardo Lamas.
The pair last fought in 2014, when then-champion Aldo defeated Lamas via a unanimous decision (49–46, 49–46, 49–46) to defend his 145-pound strap.
35-year-old Lamas, a Chicago native, sports a record of 18-5 in the cage, and is on a two-fight win streak since losing to Max Holloway at UFC 199 in June of 2016.
Aldo [26-3] hasn’t fought since his destruction at the hands of Max Holloway in the summer.
A shot at Holloway’s featherweight title may well be up for grabs for December’s winner.
In addition to Aldo-Lamas II, UFC on FOX 26 will also feature a pair of welterweight bouts between Mike Perry [11-1] and Santiago Ponzinibbio [25-3], and Jordan Mein [29-12] vs. Erick Silva [19-8].

Good fight. Will give aldo a real chance to bounce back. Also gives lamos a good shout at a title fight or 1 contender fight.. Not an awful lot going on in FW at the minute.
It’s amazing how this guy has fallen of such a pedestal since doping tests became so stringent in the UFC.
@Lord Clanricarde: He lost 2 fights against 2 of the best in the world, and won one against one of the best, he’s also older and has done it all, so maybe not as motivated as he once was. The margins are very fine at the top.
I’m not saying he’s above suspicion but the “his record since testing” argument is old and tired and doesn’t stand up to any sort of scrutiny.
Anyone heard the rumour of McGregor Ferguson in December?
@Ardmore02: NO ONE CARES.
@Ardmore02: It would be unusual for a fighter to fight again so soon. He mightn’t have taken much damage against Lee.
@Ardmore02: more like March but looks like it’s happening alright
