Watch out world, Jordan Spieth is in ominous form ahead of the Open

The American was in sparkling form during the third round of his warm-up tournament.

EARLIER THIS MONTH, a number of high-profile golf commentators expressed dismay that Jordan Spieth decided to play the John Deere Classic the weekend before the Open.

He should, they said, take part in either the Scottish Open or arrive at St. Andrew’s early as he attempts to make history and become the first player to win the first three legs of golf’s Grand Slam.

However, the 21-year old silenced the doubters yesterday with a flawless 61 in the third round which included two eagles and six birdies as he grabbed the clubhouse lead.

And, as if to prove just how well he is playing, his three at 17 — part of a birdie, eagle, birdie finish — was the result of holing out from 106 yards with a shot he wasn’t even happy with.
