FORMER ENGLAND DEFENDER Jonathan Woodgate is to join Liverpool’s scouting team, focusing on players operating in continental Europe.
Woodgate, who was released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season, as his hometown club secured promotion to the Premier League, is expected to track players playing in Spain and Portugal.
The 36-year-old previously spent time as a player in Spain with Real Madrid, but his time with Los Blancos was dogged by injuries, which resulted in Woodgate making only nine league appearances in his three years with the club.
Liverpool have brought in several players from the Iberian Peninsula in recent seasons, including Iago Aspas, Lazar Markovic, Aly Cissokho and Alberto Moreno, who have all had varying degrees of success at Anfield.

He’s already out for 2 months due to an ankle injury he picked up at a local under 13s game
5 star comment right there!
I’ll never forget watching his Real debut live. Fairytale it was not
I was at the match during a short break in Madrid. Absolute disaster for him. €25 for a decent seat. Saw two lads after the match try to get on to the pitch. Battered by security so we thought better of it.
Anyone with a dodgy ticker reading the first 4 words of that headline must have saw their life flash before them
Has to be the most unluckiest players ever to have played
Blahahahahaha the last paragraph FFS ! Take the blinkers off Shane ! Not one of them there has had any success at anfield
I know, how was he able to throw in the word “success” into that last sentence?
Southampton’s bank manager?
He’s a great scout in football manager 2016 someone at LFC must be a fan of that game
Just as long he keeps his feet to the ground.
Woodgate a scout? ahahahahaha.
What’s your basis for that?
Hey, forget him, he’s just some guy.
He won the League Cup for Spurs in extra time while being concussed by Petr Cech’s fist at the same time
