Controversial ex-UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Jon Jones' manager says the former UFC champ may never return to MMA

‘Bones’ was suspended indefinitely last week following his arrest.

HE’S CURRENTLY SERVING an indefinite suspension, but Jon Jones’ absence from competition might be more permanent than temporary, according to his manager.

The mixed martial arts star was arrested in New Mexico last week due to his alleged involvement in a car collision that resulted in a pregnant woman sustaining a broken arm. Jones is reported to have fled the scene of the accident.

The 27-year-old later turned himself in to police before posting bail of $2,500. Jones was then stripped of his UFC light-heavyweight title and suspended by the organisation. A district attorney must now decide if Jones’ case should be brought to a grand jury. The incident came just three months after Jones tested positive for cocaine.

Malki Kawa, Jones’ manager, told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour: “It could very well be the last time we’ve seen Jon Jones in the octagon. I think Jon Jones is going to focus on Jon Jones.

“I think he’s going to take the time to do whatever he’s got to do. And if it’s the last time we’ve seen him fight, it’s the last time we’ve seen him fight. And I’m okay with that.

“If he ever doesn’t come back to the sport, it’s because he doesn’t want to come back to the sport. If it was because of too much pressure? Could be. If it’s because of the belt? Could be. If it’s because the competition is too much, it could be.

“Whatever he decides is the reason why he won’t come back to the sport, but it’ll be solely on him. I’m not going to blame anything or anyone for anything Jon Jones does.

“If this is the last time we’ve ever seen him fight and it very well may be, then it’s because of a decision he’s decided to make. It won’t be because of something you guys are perceiving to be a problem. It’s just because he feels he’s had it. Maybe that’s it.”

Boxing and MMA should address their own problems instead of turning on each other
