Dr Crokes star free to play in All-Ireland final after winning appeal

Johnny Buckley received a straight red card in the semi-final win over Mullinalaghta.

LAST UPDATE | 28 Feb 2019

DR CROKES MIDFIELDER Johnny Buckley is free to play in the All-Ireland club football final on St Patrick’s Day after winning his appeal against a one-game suspension tonight.

His ban was overturned after an appeal to the GAA’s Central Hearings Committee (CHC) tonight, the club confirmed to The42.

It’s a major boost for the Kerry kingpins to have Buckley available for the decider against holders Corofin on 17 March.

Buckley was sent-off by referee Sean Hurson during the first-half of Dr Crokes’ semi-final defeat of Mullinalaghta for an alleged strike on Aidan McElligott.

The Dr Crokes appeal centred around their own footage from behind the goals which captured the coming together of Buckley and McElligott.

Bernard Jackman joins Murray Kinsella and Gavan Casey to discuss the backlash to World Rugby’s league proposal, captaincy styles, sports psychology and more in The42 Rugby Weekly.
