Connacht blow as Muldoon damages knee ligaments

The back-row was stretchered off early in the second half of Ireland’s win against Fiji on Saturday.

CONNACHT BACK-ROW John Muldoon is set for “a few months” on the sidelines after damaging knee ligaments during Ireland’s win against Fiji.

Muldoon was injured in the build-up to Fergus McFadden’s second-half try and was stretchered off five minutes after the restart to be replaced by Chris Henry.

It was one of the few black marks on an evening capped by a debut hat-trick from winger Craig Gilroy as Declan Kidney’s experimental Ireland XV ran out comfortable 53-0 winners.

Following a scan yesterday morning, Muldoon confirmed that he has damaged ligaments and is all but certain to miss Connacht’s busy pre-Christmas schedule including the Heineken Cup double-header against Biarritz.

“Thanks for all the well wishes,” the lock tweeted last night. “Had scan this morning and have knee ligament damage, will be out for a few months #OnRoadToRecoveryNow.”

And to (literally) add insult to injury, Connacht and Ireland team-mate Mike McCarthy had some further bad news for Muldoon.
