'A bit of Richie Kavanagh or something': John Joe's search for ring walk music

The Irish people can help Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin as he picks the music for his first professional boxing bout.

STEVE COLLINS HAD Óró, Sé do Bheatha ‘Bhaile and Bernard Dunne used the Irish Rover.

Now the Irish people can help John Joe Nevin choose the music which will become the soundtrack to his professional boxing career.

After weeks of will-he-or-won’t-he speculation, the Olympic silver medallist joined Amir Khan’s Super Fight Promotions and will step into the ring for his first pro bout in the new year.

Nevin, 23, expects to fight on 19 January in Manchester’s MEN Arena but before he does, the Mullingar native will have to decide on the ring walk music which will play as he enters the arena.

In an interview with Today FM, Nevin said that he wants to pick a song which reflects his Irishness but he’s not sure yet what it will be.

“I’m actually deciding that at the minute,” Nevin told the Ray D’Arcy Show. “I don’t know what to choose yet.

I’m trying to get my parents to pick out a few songs for me and then I’ll sit down. I want a bit of Richie Kavanagh or something.

To help Nevin on his way, Today FM have invited listeners to send in their suggestions here. We’ll get the ball rolling — from one Mullingar legend to another…
