Ireland's Nevin and Taylor top latest world boxing rankings

The pair are both now ranked No1 in their respective categories thanks to Nevin’s European championships win last month.

IRISH BOXER JOHN Joe Nevin is number one amateur bantamweight boxer in the world, according to the latest AIBA rankings.

The Mullingar fighter, who won gold at the European championships by beating Mykola Butsenko in the final in Minsk last month,  has moved ahead of Jorge Alvarez Estrada of Cuba with Tajikistan’s Anvar Yunusov in third.

Olympic gold medallist Katie Taylor remains in top spot in the Women’s 60kg category ahead of the fighter she defeated in the final at London’s ExCel Arena last year – Russia’s Sofya Ochigava.

Elswhere, Belfast pair Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlon are both ranked third in their respective weight divisions.
