JOHN ALDRIDGE WAS back in San Sebastian over the weekend to watch his old club earn three points.
The ex-Ireland and Liverpool striker spent two seasons in La Liga between 1989-1991 — scoring 33 goals for the Basque club. Yesterday, he returned to the Anoeta Stadium to watch David Moyes’ men defeat Espanyol 1-0 thanks to a Sergio Canales goal.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my two seasons at Real Socieded,” Aldo said. ”I’m very humbled that people still remember me with great fondness after being away for 20-odd years. It’s a great feeling but it’s difficult for me to express.”
When asked what was his favourite memorable during his time in Spain, he recalled scoring two goals in a 3-1 win over Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
Met him once, proper nice fella. He was along with Phil Babb…proper tool.
