Limerick hurlers pounce for a key member of Clare's 2013 All-Ireland winning camp

Joe O’Connor is joining the Limerick senior set-up and Anthony Daly will remain working with the minors.

LIMERICK SENIOR HURLING boss TJ Ryan is shaking up his backroom team ahead of the 2016 campaign.

County board officials are recommending the ratification of Joe O’Connor as Ryan’s new strength and conditioning coach.

O’Connor, a consultant at Nisus fitness, has previously worked with the Clare and Waterford senior hurlers, and Kerry’s senior footballers.

He was credited with the peak physical fitness of Davy Fitzgerald’s Clare hurlers when they stormed to All-Ireland glory two years ago.

Limerick chiefs have confirmed that Ryan is staying on as manager but coach Paul Beary and physical trainer Mark Lyons have left the set-up.

The strength and conditioning void will be filled by O’Connor, while Ryan has also been linked with a move for Paul Kinnerk, who was the Clare coach in 2013.

Dave Clarke will remain on board with Ryan as selector and Don Flynn, the county’s intermediate team manager this year, is stepping up to a senior position.

Following the resignation of Leo O’Connor as minor manager, the Limerick county board executive is hoping to install Pat Donnelly as his replacement.

It has been confirmed also that Clare’s two-time All-Ireland winning captain and ex-Dublin boss Anthony Daly will remain on board as coach, to be assisted by Will McCormack.

Donnelly, from the South Liberties club, was a selector alongside O’Connor this year.

Brian Foley and John Mulqueen will serve as Donnelly’s selectors in 2016.

All appointments are subject to ratification by Limerick county board delegates.
