ENGLAND PROP JOE Marler has apologised to his Wales counterpart Samson Lee for verbally abusing him during Saturday’s Six Nations clash.
Marler was picked up by refere Craig Joubert’s microphone apparently calling Lee “gypsy boy” during the first-half of England’s 25-21 win at Twickenham and tournament organisers have opened an investigation.
The remark prompted a confrontation between the players and the RFU said that Marler has expressed regret over what he said.
“Joe spoke to Samson at half-time to apologise and he was reminded by (head coach) Eddie Jones of his responsibilities as an England player after the game,” the RFU said in a statement this afternoon.

With a hair cut like that I’d be insulting no one …
Is under official investigation, would have been alerted by RFU staff that he was caught on the red mic so this “apology” was merely an attempt to reduce any possible ban that may be coming his way. Either for this incident or the cheap punch after the English try.
Sorry he got caught.
Marler needs the book thrown at him now. He dropped his forearm under the posts on a Welsh player (can’t remember who) in exactly the same he did to Murray two weeks ago. Rugby is a physical game but that’s just thuggish. If world rugby are serious about making the game safer, then get this guy should be off the park. I don’t care if England win the championship or not, but there’ll be something galling about seeing a guy lift the trophy when he spent the tournament being a dirty tw^t
Im sure he will get away with it.
I was just thinking the same thing about the Murray incident.Marler needs someone to teach him a lesson.
He was in after the whistle for the afters every single time. I’d say Eddie Jones has them all wired to the moon to be as “in your face” as possible
It is a bit rich where Eddie Jones is telling Joe Marler what his responsibilities are after some of his recent ramblings at his press conferences. Stuart Lancaster was pilloried for trying to rid English rugby of toe rags like this
Thankfully he didn’t succeed, would rather a team that wins and everyone hates as opposed to a squad of nice guys that loses. Nice guys finish last..
It’s possible to win and not abuse, bite or punch the opposition though
Spoken like a true moron. Fortunately you’re wrong too.
Jaysus Youse are all very sensitive and quick to offend. Nothing like the moral indignation of the online mob. At least Jones has a personality unlike his predecessor.
@jack
Ill think you’ll find nice guys finish last for a reason……..ask the ladies, or your mam.
Its some contest to pick the biggest p***k on the english rugby team…
That’s easy – it’s Eddie Jones!
Lets not forget Ashton is to come back into the mix as well!
No contest..mike brown
Marley’s abuse “was picked up by refere Craig Joubert’s microphone” but not by his brain, apparently.
S*umbag
Some of the characters are particularly odious, Hartley Marler and Haskell come across as horrible individuals. Can’t leave Brown and Farrell out either.
Ireland could do with a few more cynical players. We’re far too nice these days.
Have to say always liked Marler but seems to have developed a thuggish side to his play. Anyway it’s great for the game as the recent ‘respectful and respectable’ England were so vanilla. Much more fun when they’re arrogant
Spend enough time in the company of Dylan Hartley and Dan Cole, and I suppose it’s inevitable
I wonder would Marler say this to Tyson ‘Gypsy King’ Fury.
What Marler said was accurate, though. If anything Samson Lee should be the one apologising
Not defending Marler but I understand Samson comes from the travelling community.
Well that kinda makes it worse…
In condemning Marler I think we should also condemn Francis for his gouging of Cole. A couple of lengthy bans for both players I hope.
And that has exactly what to do with what ??
Sorry is my comment too difficult for you Ian.
Just the kind of comment I would expect from an Englishman…. Ye did invent racism after all
Yeah cos we’re all so welcoming and open-minded in Ireland
Darragh. I hope you are not referring to me. I am as Irish as you.
Indeed Mark. There is a lot of nastiness directed at international students in Dublin
what a knacker,to say something like that.
