JERRY SEXTON, YOUNGER brother of Ireland out-half Jonny, has joined Premiership club Exeter Chiefs on a trial basis.
The 21-year-old lock has been given until November to impress at the Rob Baxter-coached outfit, with captain and second row Dean Mumm currently out of action with a shoulder injury.
Sexton, an Ireland international at U20 level, spent last season with Auch in the French ProD2, where he helped the Espoirs [U23] team to a national title alongside compatriot Rory Kavanagh.
The former St. Mary’s clubman looked to set for a move to Mont-de-Marsan, where Irish lock Mark Flanagan is established, ahead of the 2014/15 season, but a deal could not be struck in the end and Sexton has looked elsewhere.
My agent told me there was an opportunity to come to Exeter on trial because Dean Mumm was injured and that there was a possible place available,” Sexton told Premiership Rugby. “We sent the video across, the coaches had a look and now they’ve offered me a chance until November, so we’ll see where it goes from there.”

Sexton will compete against fellow Irishman Ryan Caldwell for a place in Exeter’s second row, with the ex-Ulster player also having joined this summer. Further locking competition is provided by the likes of Damian Welch and Will Carrick-Smith.
“I’m looking forward to it, my brother said the coaches here are very good and that there are no superstars within the squad,” said Sexton. “Already you can see the club is all about hard work and that’s what I aim to do and hopefully get a chance to play.”
