Jermain Defoe had quite the welcoming party on his Toronto arrival

Or should that be quiet?

FRESH FROM SCORING a neat goal against Crystal Palace at the weekend, Jermaine Defoe arrived in Toronto to meet his adoring public.

The Spurs and England striker has signed for Toronto FC but is staying with the London side until the end of February. Defoe touched down at Pearson International Airport in Toronto on Sunday evening and was met by several members of the media and a sprinkling of loyal Toronto FC fans.

This picture sums up a sedate arrival scene:

Defoe, with a TFC scarf draped around his neck, declared, “I’m excited, as you can imagine. It’s been a long couple of months and I just wanted to get over here and see the city. I’m looking forward to it; fantastic challenge, wonderful opportunity. I’m really excited, I feel like a little kid.”

“I’m looking forward to seeing the city,” he added. “My family came over about a month ago and I got good feedback. They said it was a fantastic city with fantastic people.”

Words of advice Jermaine, go get yourself a Tim Hortons and always remember ‘Leafs rule, Bruins suck’.
