Inter captain Javier Zanetti is 40 (yes, 40) today

The Argentinian legend has played more than 1,100 games over the course of his career.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAVIER Zanetti!

The Inter captain and Argentinian football legend is 40 today and still going strong.

To put this into perspective, he is two years younger than Roy Keane, who has long since retired.

While most footballers tend to hang up their boots around the age of 35, Zanetti’s consummate professionalism was emphasised by the fact that, despite being in the twilight of his career, he managed 33 appearances last season.

The right-back, who is currently recovering from an achilles tendon injury, has already broken several records over the course of his career, making 845 appearances and counting for Inter.

In addition, he has played more than 1,100 matches in total since making his debut with Talleres in 1991, after being rejected by Independiente.

And despite his age and current injury problems, Zanetti has told reporters he has no immediate plans to hang up his boots.
