Javier Hernandez cuts holidays short in effort to impress Louis van Gaal

The Mexico striker will hook up with the Manchester United squad on Tuesday.

JAVIER HERNANDEZ MUST be eager to impress his new boss at Manchester United as the Mexico international is cutting his summer break short to join the club’s USA tour.

Chicharito was not named in United’s initial 25-man squad for the four-game tour of the United States. He is not due back until 27 July as Mexico reached the second round of the World Cup.

However, with new coach Louis van Gaal at the helm, Hernandez has opted to join up with his clubmates on Tuesday. He is not due to feature in the opening game against LA Galaxy but may be included on the bench as the United squad currently have only three forwards — Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Will Keane.

Hernandez came off the substitutes bench for each of Mexico’s four World Cup matches. The team were eliminated by Van Gaal’s Netherlands in the last 16.

He is one of several United players, including Shinji Kagawa and Chris Smalling, into the final two years of his contract. Tom Cleverley and Darren Fletcher are out of contract next summer. Van Gaal says he will not make any decision on new signings until mid August, following the US tour.

United will play Roma [26 July], Inter Milan [30 July] and real Madrid [2 August] following the opening fixture against LA.
