UNDEFEATED IRISH MIDDLEWEIGHT sensation Jason Quigley’s 2017 has gotten off to a great start with news that he’ll headline Golden Boy’s first ESPN card in March.
The Donegal boxer will square up to American Glen Tapia in his first professional title fight, with the NABF middleweight title at stake.
The 10-round bout will headline the two-hour telecast on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes on 23 March, from Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. It will be broadcast throughout the US, in both English and Spanish, on ESPN and its affiliated networks in Latin America, Canada, the Caribbean, Australia and parts of Asia.
The fight takes place just a week after gymmate Michael Conlan makes his professional debut at Madison Square Garde.
The 25-year-old brought his professional record to 12-0 in December, as he defeated Jorge Melendez after a first-round knockout.
“2017 is going to be a big year for me, and I can’t imagine a better way to kick it off than by headlining the first edition of ‘Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN,’” he told the website.
“Glen Tapia has faced some of the best in the middleweight and [junior middleweight] divisions, but I am excited to show a huge audience what I’m capable of in the ring.”
Tapia is seeking redemption, having been knocked out in the fourth round of his past two fights.
ESPN and Golden Boy Promotions announced the multi-year international broadcastimg agreement last week, one which comes as a massive boost Stateside as professional boxing continues its revival there.

They took a punt by paying well over the odds for this summer’s signings. If they don’t make top for CL money debit will have to be amortised over a longer period, and stadium investment put on long finger.
No CL and stadium on long finger will put them in competitive disadvantage compared with CL clubs.
