Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, the former England international noted: “Luis knows he has done something seriously wrong, letting himself down … but, rather than hounding him out of the country, shouldn’t we be helping him?”

Carragher went on to say that even though Suarez’s bite was “shocking”, a sense of perspective is needed as the incident was not as bad as some of the dangerous play that takes place in matches.
“I know what it is like to have your leg broken by a reckless tackle … would I have preferred to have been bitten? Absolutely,” he added.
