Sparks to fly as Jamie Carragher joins Gary Neville on Sky Sports next season

Some viewers will be hoping for subtitles when ‘Carra’ goes off on one. Others will understand him perfectly well.

THERE WILL BE another liverbird among the Sky Sports pigeons next season when retiring [professionally, not personally] Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher joins the Sky Sports panel.

The 35-year-old will link up with his old buddy Jamie Redknapp, Arsenal legend Alan Smith and former Liverpool boss Graeme Souness as part of Sky’s football punditry team for 2013/14.

The most interesting aspect of Carragher’s career change will see him link up on the panel with his long-time rival, Gary Neville. As a passionate Manchester United player for more than 15 years, Neville often raised the ire of Carragher and his Liverpool teammates.

Carragher, who made over 770 appearances for Liverpool and England, told Sky, “I can’t wait to be part of their coverage and work with the best in the business.” He added:

I don’t think there could be a better move for me: to retire from one of the world’s best football clubs at the end of the season and then join one of the world’s best broadcasters. Until that time comes, I’ll remain fully focused on my remaining playing career with Liverpool and I’m looking forward to ending the season with good results.”
