Man Utd striker hopes to put himself in shop window with loan move

James Wilson has admitted that he hasn’t spoken to Jose Mourinho about his future at Old Trafford.

MANCHESTER UNITED FORWARD James Wilson has admitted he is looking to use his loan move to Aberdeen as an opportunity to put himself in the shop window.

Wilson burst onto the scene as an 18-year-old when he scored twice in his Premier League debut against Hull City at Old Trafford, but has since made only 20 appearances for the Reds and has been loaned out to Brighton, Derby County and Sheffield United.

On Monday he completed a season-long loan deal to Pittodrie, his fourth temporary spell away from United, having remained down the pecking order at Old Trafford. The 22-year-old striker has admitted he has not spoken to manager Jose Mourinho about his status at United, suggesting he has no future with the Red Devils.

Wilson told BT Sport: “I’ve not [spoken to Mourinho] directly but obviously he doesn’t see me in his plans for this year so the right move was to come on loan and Aberdeen was the right place.

“I want as many minutes as possible and as many goals as possible, but I am in my final year at Man United and I’m looking to put myself in the shop window. But obviously short term I want to help the team do well.

“Since I spoke to a few people about the club, they have mentioned the big names that have come here and done well and gone back to their clubs and gone stride for stride with the lads who are already in the team. It was a big factor in me coming here to develop my career.

“The coverage that the Scottish league is getting at the minute is really good, one in every three games is on TV. The crowds here are the same as you’d get in a Championship game, and overall I just think it was the right move.”

James Maddison had a successful loan stint at Aberdeen during the 2016-17 season and has gone on to sign for Leicester City for €27 million, while Danny Ward and Michael Hector have also enjoyed loan spells at Pittodrie before going onto bigger things.

The Dons finished second in the Scottish Premiership last season and Wilson will be hoping he can help them challenge Celtic, who have made an indifferent start to the campaign.

The Scottish champions lost to Hearts on Saturday and were knocked out of the Champions League qualifying stage by AEK Athens last night.

Pele scoring a bicycle kick to equalise for the allies after being 4-0 down and Stallone saving a last minute penalty is the greatest comeback of all time.

@James lee: teams come back from 3-0 down to DRAW every week in football. even Barcelona’s comeback vs PSG was more impressive than that.

Anyway the comments refer to an actual return from a tough place and turbulent times like Tiger over the past 5 years, not a single game. Thought that was pretty clear.

@Steven Robinson: She tried to ruin him? He was off with other women while she was pregnant. Couldn’t bring myself to cheer on a dirtbag like that.

Greatest comeback? When he comes back from a double-fracture of the pelvis, a fractured collar bone, a left ankle fracture, a chipped rib, and near-fatal blood clots, then wins 3 more majors, I’ll consider that a comeback.
