James McClean pens new three-year Sunderland contract

The 22-year has earned a long-term deal with the Black Cats after ‘an explosive start to his career’.

IRELAND WINGER JAMES McClean has signed a new three-year deal with Sunderland.

The 22-year-old has starred with the Black Cats since Martin O’Neill took control, having arrived at the Stadium of Light from Derry City.

“I’m thrilled to be here. I’m really enjoying my football and to have earned a new contract is a dream. I’m over the moon to see my next three years with Sunderland,” said McClean this morning.

The former Candystripes man earned an international call-up from Giovanni Trapattoni, making his senior debut for the Boys in Green against the Czech Republic in Dublin last month.

“I’m absolutely delighted that James has committed himself to the club,” said manager O’Neill. “He’s had an explosive start to his career here at Sunderland and long may it continue.”
