Roy Keane might be the right man for Ireland job, says James McCarthy

‘It would be great to work under Keane,’ says midfielder.

James McCarthy believes it may be time to look closer to home for a successor to Giovanni Trapattoni as the Republic of Ireland manager, and says he would be happy to play under Roy Keane.
“A few names have already been thrown around – Martin O’Neill and Mick McCarthy maybe,” Everton’s new £14m signing said. “It would be great to work under Roy Keane but I’m not sure what’s going to happen. It’s up to the FAI and I’m sure whoever comes in will do a good job.”
The former Wigan midfielder played in Austria in Trapattoni’s final defeat on Tuesday night and added he was both sorry and surprised to see the Italian bow out. “Trapattoni did a magnificent job, I don’t think anyone can fault how well he’s done for us,” he said. “He got us to a European Championship and was just short against France in the last World Cup play-off. I got on well with him, he’s such a nice man.
“He’d talk to me now and again in broken English and was good to me. He gave me my debut and I’m thankful to him for that. I’m still gutted that he’s gone, to be honest.”
